15 years with T1D. Trained Advocate. One of you.
Ivan knows what it feels like to carry T1D in a place where most people have never heard of it ,where explaining your condition is exhausting, where access is uncertain, and where you sometimes wonder if anyone truly gets it.
Fifteen years into his own T1D journey, Ivan didn't just learn to manage his condition , he learned to fight for others navigating the same lonely roads. Trained as a barrister, he brings the sharpness of legal advocacy into spaces where T1D voices have long gone unheard.
But what sets Ivan apart isn't his qualifications. It's that he started exactly where many of you are , as a young person with T1D, searching for community, for belonging, for proof that this life is fully livable. From camp counselor to community leader, he has spent years inside the rooms where T1D youth gather, listen, struggle, and grow.
He understands the weight of being seen as "the sick one." He understands the isolation. And he understands , deeply , what it means to finally find a community that gets you.
That's what he's building here. Not a program. Not a campaign. A home.
Provided legal advocacy on corporate governance for Diabetes and NCD organisations
Initiated and implemented programmatic interventions to help T1Ds
Hosting and mentoring T1D camps in several African countries
As part of the Board, he has ensured governance standards are adhered to to ensure those living with NCDs are not ignored
